Bismarck State College was ranked sixth among two and four-year institutions granting associate degrees in engineering technologies and engineering related fields in the June 24 issue of Community College Week, an independent, national publication covering community, technical and junior colleges. The ranking included engineering technology, pre-engineering and several energy programs offered by Bismarck State College.
Data from the U.S. Department of Education was analyzed and compiled by Community College Week to determine the top degree producing community colleges across the nation. According to the analysis, the total number of associate degrees conferred by community colleges exceeded one million for the first time in 2011-12.
BSC was grouped with the four-year colleges in the study due to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy Management offered as BSC's only four-year degree.
"It is exciting to see BSC receive national recognition and that the demand for energy and engineering degrees continues to grow," says Kari Knudson, vice president, BSC National Energy Center of Excellence. "The quality of our programs and focus on student completion is reflected in this national analysis."
BSC was ranked in the top ten in this same category in 2010-11 analysis. For more information about the rankings, see the June 11 archived issue of Community College Week at ccweek.com.
