Bismarck State College opens its sixth series of Conversations at BSC with a detailed look at the making of the recent documentary film about North Dakota's famous philanthropist and entrepreneur – "Mr. Bubble: The Harold Schafer Story."
The series begins Sunday, Sept. 15, at 3 p.m. in the Bavendick Stateroom of BSC's National Energy Center of Excellence.
This first of five programs features dialogue between BSC President Larry C. Skogen, a history specialist, and award-winning humanities scholar Clay Jenkinson. Comments and questions from the audience complete the conversation.
The documentary about Harold Schafer was released in June 2013, the third film about noted North Dakotans made by the Dakota Institute, a subsidiary of the Fort Mandan Foundation. Jenkinson is institute director, a noted author and essayist, historical performer, and originator of "The Thomas Jefferson House" on NPR.
Skogen is BSC's sixth CEO, author and longtime school administrator and teacher. He is serving concurrently as acting chancellor of the North Dakota University System.
The conversation will include out-takes from the documentary film and discussion of what goes into creating such a film, what had to be left out, and the leadership of Harold Schafer. Future projects will be discussed.
Programs are unrehearsed and emphasize the 360-degree perspective of the humanities lens. Read more at the Conversations at BSC website – bsctalk.com.
Other Conversations at BSC programs are scheduled Oct. 13, Jan. 26, March 30 and May 4. Funding for Conversations is provided by Bismarck State College and the BSC Foundation.
