Hess Corporation and Bismarck State College celebrated a partnership Friday that has resulted in strong internship and job shadow programs, development and facilitation of operator training, and support for BSC's energy education programs.
Hess presented a $30,000 donation to the college to be used to purchase training equipment that will be used in the Mechanical Maintenance Technology and Instrumentation & Control programs.
The donation ensures that BSC can purchase additional first-rate training equipment that allows students to complete their education on industry-standard equipment.
"Hess and BSC have created a solid partnership," said Michael Bast, North Dakota MR&I Manager. "The training programs help energy employers meet workforce needs with qualified, competent employees. We are proud to be part of North Dakota's oil and gas workforce."
This donation brings the total financial support from Hess to $60,000 over the past two years. Pieces of equipment purchased with the most recent donation include:
- Two Shaft Alignment System Trainers
- Two Hart Communicators
- Four Fluke 789 Process Meters
"Energy graduates from BSC have been in high demand both from our traditional employers as well as positions created by the increased development in the Bakken," said Gordon Binek, BSC Foundation executive director and vice president for college advancement. "We want to make certain we can continue to educate enough students to meet to meet the needs of industry."
Representatives from Hess also serve on various advisory boards for BSC, serving to ensure that curriculum is up-to-date and accurately reflects the needs of industry.
"Hess has been an excellent partner and we greatly appreciate their continued support of our energy programs," said Kari Knudson, BSC vice president, National Energy Center of Excellence.
