BISMARCK, N.D. - The North Dakota State Board of Higher Education today confirmed the appointment of David L. Clark, current executive vice president at Bismarck State College, to be the interim president at BSC from Nov. 1, 2013 to June 30, 2015. Clark was recommended by Dr. Larry C. Skogen, current BSC president, who begins his term as the interim chancellor of the North Dakota University System on Nov. 1 and also serves through June 2015.
"We have great confidence in Dave Clark and his ability to lead Bismarck State during this period," said Kirsten Diederich, president of the State Board of Higher Education. "Chancellor Skogen made an excellent recommendation, and we're pleased to welcome such a qualified executive to the leadership team."
Skogen said, "Dave has extensive corporate, state and higher education experience. During BSC's recent rapid growth in student enrollments, facilities renovations and expansion, online delivery and budget development and execution, I counted heavily on his excellent advice, intuitive senses, and no-nonsense analysis. I know that over the next 20 months he'll maintain strong hands on the levers of BSC ensuring the institution continues to move forward, continues to be responsive to a wide variety of stakeholders, and continues to focus BSC on student success."
Clark grew up in New England, N.D., and Bismarck, obtaining his associate degree at BSC, his bachelor's degree at the University of Mary, Bismarck; and his MBA at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. He worked at Basin Electric as a cost analyst, then moved to the Office of Management and Budget for the State of North Dakota, where he served in positions of increasing responsibility in budget analysis and fiscal management. In 1990, he accepted a position at BSC as vice president of operations, was promoted to vice president of operations and corporate and continuing education and finally to his current position as executive vice president. Clark is active in the Bismarck community, in higher education within NDUS, and on a regional and national basis. He and his wife, Sue, have one son.
