Gordon Binek, executive director of the Bismarck State College Foundation, receives the Respected Fundraising Professional of the Year award during the National Philanthropy Day celebration Nov. 13 in Fargo.

Presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Northern Plains Chapter, the award is based on a criterion that recognizes "a passionate fundraising professional, who exemplifies the highest standards of ethical practice and effectively champions the cause of a nonprofit mission."

Binek, who also serves as BSC vice president for College Advancement, received his nomination from foundation staff.

Part of their nomination states: "Gordy exhibits the qualities of a professional and ethical leader in philanthropic endeavors. He continually keeps the best interests of the donor in the forefront of all his activities. No matter the size of the gift (time, talent and/or treasure), Gordy expresses sincere appreciation for the donor and their contribution to the organization. He leads with integrity, is generous with his knowledge, gives credit where credit is due, and always looks for ways in which everyone can succeed."

The Association of Fundraising Professionals has affiliations worldwide. Northern Plains Chapter comprises North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota and provides educational, networking and mentoring opportunities throughout the year.
